TSL announces the new 1153 Bluetooth® Wearable UHF RFID Reader, a unique, high-performance RFID and 2D barcode data scanner that makes data collection truly mobile, fast and functional. This versatile RFID reader is worn easily on the user’s hand for the ultimate in mobility.

TSL’s 1153 Bluetooth Wearable UHF RFID Reader is compatible with a wide range of Bluetooth enabled host devices, including enterprise handhelds, consumer phones, touchscreen MP3 players, tablets and PCs. TSL provides a free RFID Explorer App to track your inventory on any device. This ruggedized RFID scanner is lightweight, comfortable and optimized for both long battery life and ergonomic comfort.

“We designed the unique 1153 Bluetooth Wearable UHF RFID Reader for functional and comfortable ‘over-the-hand’ wearability, allowing users to carry items with both hands without dropping the scanner,” said Dr. David Evans, managing director of TSL. “The versatility, mobility and ease-of-use of the 1153 Reader make it ideal for a range of asset tracking applications on the go.”

The new 1153 Bluetooth Wearable UHF RFID Reader is designed to read and write to EPC Class 1 Gen 2 (ISO18000-6C) UHF transponders and communicate with a variety of host devices via Bluetooth wireless technology. Optimized for low power consumption, this new ‘over-the-hand’ reader delivers excellent performance in a small and convenient form factor. The wearable TSL Reader also includes first-class 2D barcode data scanning to bring unparalleled data collection capabilities to connected devices.

In order to enable faster and easier application development and customization, the 1153 Bluetooth Wearable UHF RFID Reader incorporates TSL’s unique ASCII 2 protocol. This sophisticated parameterized ASCII protocol provides a powerful set of commands and supporting RFID software development kits that carry out multiple actions locally within the reader, allowing multiple tag operations to be executed using simple pre-configured ASCII commands.

For a demonstration, visit RFID Journal LIVE!, in Orlando, Florida, April 8-10, at TSL’s booth #119.

Whitepaper: DevelopCustomRFIDAppsMany users of TSL’s ruggedized 1128 Bluetooth® UHF RFID Reader are familiar with our sophisticated ASCII 2 protocol that enables a set of simple, pre-configured commands to be executed locally within the reader. ASCII command mode allows developers to call upon text-based commands to execute complex RFID tag functions, such as inventory or read and write.

Well, this same ASCII 2 protocol simplifies development of custom programs for integration with other applications, providing fast and accurate asset tracking with even greater functionality and flexibility. And to assist application developers in creating truly custom apps, TSL offers free RFID software development kits (SDKs) for iOS, Windows Mobile, Android™, and Windows Desktop operating systems.

A powerful set of tools available with the SDK guides developers on how to leverage universal ASCII code to speed integration with the 1128 Bluetooth® UHF RFID Reader. For example, developers can quickly and easily create apps to “check in/ check out” assets, conduct an “inventory audit” or “find specific items” using the reader paired with any Bluetooth®-enabled mobile device, including enterprise handhelds, consumer phones, touchscreen MP3 players, tablets and PCs.

Interested in learning more about creating custom RFID apps in a snap to boost productivity and cost-effectiveness? Read more in a new TSL white paper “DEVELOP CUSTOM APPS IN A SNAP FOR THE 1128 BLUETOOTH READER”.

And then check out the TSL SDKs, available in the ‘Downloads’ section* of our 1128 Bluetooth® UHF RFID Reader product site, and let us know what you think.
